The EISA runs as an extension of the activities of the very successful “Corfu Summer Institute on Elementary Particle Physics and Gravity” which started in 1982 and it is hosting leading scientific activities such as European Network meetings, Summer Schools, Experimental collaboration meetings and Workshops in various research fields. They were hosted in the best public buildings and monuments of the Corfu town (Old Palace, Ionian Parliament, Public Library, Ionian University, Old Castle, etc.).

In May 2006 the National Technical University and the Municipality of Corfu founded the Research Organisation, “European Institute for Sciences and their Applications” (EISA), a non-profit public organization, with head quarters in the city of Corfu (Constitution, Constitution Amendment, Constitution in Greek). The EISA is hosting high level international scientific meetings in the conference center of the ex-Royal Palace garden of Mon Repos.
