The Research Training Group (RTG) 2575

Rethinking Quantum Field Theory

invites applications for

several PhD positions in theoretical physics

funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The RTG is conducted 
by all research groups in quantum field theory at Humboldt Universität 
zu Berlin in cooperation with partners at DESY and the 
Max-Planck-Institute for Gravitational Physics 
(Albert-Einstein-Institut) in Potsdam. Building upon important recent 
innovations the RTG aims at the further development of methods and 
concepts in quantum field theory. These will lead to a deep rethinking 
of its foundations paired with a quick impact on applications.  We 
address a broad research spectrum in quantum field theory and offer 
challenging PhD projects in the general areas of

            * Scattering Amplitudes
            * Phenomenology
            * Lattice Field Theory
            * AdS/CFT Correspondence
            * Analytical Gravitational Waves
            * Mathematical aspects of Quantum Fields

reflecting the broad expertise of the research groups involved. A 
timely qualification program for a new generation of theorists will 
train them in modern aspects of quantum field theory with a focus on a 
broad interdisciplinary education. Next to the research work key 
elements of our qualification program are (i) introductory and 
advanced courses on QFT, (ii) an annual retreat with external 
lecturers and seminars, (iii) a monthly colloquium, (iv) two 
internships in neighboring research groups, (v) self-organized 
seminars, (vi) presentations on career perspectives outside of 
academia, and (vii) professional soft skills training.

Selected candidates will receive a three-year doctoral position 
according to the German public service salary scale (TV-L E13 66.6%) 
starting March 1st 2021.
Applicants should hold a degree equivalent to a Master's degree in 
theoretical physics or related areas. Women are particularly 
encouraged to apply. Disabled applicants will be preferred if they are 
equally suitable. Applications from people with a migration background 
are expressly welcome.
